POSITION:                Vocational Educational Assistant 6-12

 

LOCATION:              Pleasant Hill High School

 

REQUIREMENTS:  Provide supplemental practice for various learning experiences, including drills and activities using effective strategies to reinforce and or modify skills specific to the Vocational Education Setting (woodshop, welding, machine/metals, agriculture). Provides direct assistance to student’s behavioral, academic, and/or personal needs. Knowledge of English grammar, composition and spelling.  Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and staff. Provides proactive supervision of students in a variety of settings. Perform related duties consistent with job description and assignment. Requires AA Degree or higher, equivalent of 2 years post high school education or high school diploma and minimum of at least one year related experience and/or training. 

 

Ability to pass Drug Screen required. Ability to obtain and hold a First Aid/CPR card.

HOURS:                    35 hours per week, 7 hours per day, M-F, 180 days

SALARY:                  $16.93-$19.33 per hour (based on experience)

Job Description
Job Title: Educational Assistant Vocation (6-12)
Reports To: Building Administrator
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary
This position provides a variety of tasks in support of, and preparation for, the educational
process as well as duties of instructional assistance to the teacher in a school setting. The
position facilitates the smooth operation of the vocational education setting including
woodshop, welding, machine/metals and agriculture classrooms by attending to details, which
assist the teacher and student(s).
Essential Functions

? Under direction of a licensed teacher, provides supplemental practice for various
learning experiences, including drills and activities using effective strategies to reinforce
and or modify skills specific to the Vocational Education Setting (woodshop, welding,
machine/metals, agriculture).
? Collect, sort and correct lessons and tests; record grades in ledger; redistribute as
necessary; file classroom materials.
? Completes required District logs, forms, and paperwork as required.
? Provides direct assistance to student’s behavioral, academic, and/or personal needs.
? Maintains student discipline in the absence of the teacher.
? Assists students with behavior management, including de-escalation, conflict resolution,
and adherence to school behavioral expectations.
? Assists students in developing positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults.
? Assesses and records student academic and behavior measures.
? Provides ongoing training and proactive assistance to students in relation to meeting
academic and behavioral expectations.
? Provides proactive supervision of students in a variety of settings.
? Performs setting up and taking down of materials, supplies, and equipment to support
the behavioral and academic success of students.
? Evaluates student injuries and performs first aid when necessary.
? Assists in planning and implementing learning experiences for students.

Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience:
? Associates degree or higher (attach diploma); OR
? Completion of two years post-secondary study consisting of 72 credit hours, 48
semester units (attach transcripts); OR
? High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) AND
? Minimum of at least one-year related experience and/or training.
? Meet a rigorous standard of quality, and can demonstrate, through a formal state or
local academic assessment or para-professional certificate program.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration & Other Requirements:
? Ability to obtain and hold a First Aid/CPR card and pass SafeSchools training modules as
assigned
? Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
Desired Qualifications
? Related experience in educational setting
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (May be acquired through education, training, and/or
experience.)
Knowledge of: District policies and procedures; vocational classroom procedures; letter
writing, correct language usage; telephone and record keeping/filing systems; computer
hardware and software programs and their usage; modern office equipment; safety and first aid
practices and procedures, effective supervision and behavior management methods.
Skills to: apply student de-escalation strategies in a variety of unique situations and
environments; transition smoothly from one task to another within a school day; assist with
management and supervision of students and their work in the vocational classroom setting.
Ability to: understand and apply District and school policies and procedures; greet
stakeholders; maintain appropriate office appearance and attire; maintain regular and
acceptable attendance and punctuality, as set forth in Board policy provide information

Work Direction, Lead & Supervisory Responsibilities:
No assigned permanent staff to supervise. May train and provide work directions, as directed by supervisor, to appropriate staff and volunteers.
Physical Effort:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 25 pounds and occasionally maneuver up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.
Working Conditions:
Vocational classroom environment. The employee may be exposed to bodily fluids, bloodborne pathogens, sick and/or contagious students. The employee may be exposed to toxic chemicals (for disinfecting) and outdoor weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to wood dust, noisy machinery, and fumes associated with a vocational environment.
