COMMUNITY:        Pleasant Hill School District serves approximately 975 students in grades K-12 and believes in maintaining the characteristics and qualities associated with a small rural community.  Pleasant Hill is located in Lane County that has maintained an undiscovered charm despite being only a short 15-minute drive to the University of Oregon, numerous shopping and dining experiences, and local hospital services. Pleasant Hill’s close proximity to both the coast and mountains provides its residents with some of Oregon’s greatest hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation opportunities.  The Eugene airport is a close drive away and is the second largest airport in Oregon generating over 800,000 trips annually with services to destinations like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and Seattle.

ABOUT THE

POSITION:            Pleasant Hill School District seeks outstanding candidates for the position of grades 6-12 Student Success Coordinator. This position will design, develop, implement and support the delivery of a school-based multi-tiered student support program. Successful candidates will possess the following characteristics and experience that support our mission to graduate all students with high levels of academic and personal achievement, ready for post-secondary excellence, and prepared for productive, compassionate citizenship through research-based instruction and a collaborative system of support.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Identifies social, emotional and psychological barriers to student achievement and develops strategies to address them.
  • Assesses home, community and school conditions impacting a student’s social and academic achievement, including home visits as necessary.
  • Develops long-term and short-term intervention plans consistent with curriculum; student’s needs, strengths, diversity, and life experiences; and social and emotional factors.
  • Develops and maintains school systems that consider attendance, mental health, behavior management, delinquency, crisis intervention, homelessness, child abuse and neglect in the design and implementation of multi-tiered student support systems.
  • Assists and helps teachers and administrative staff use assessment and evaluation results to develop appropriate interventions for students.
  • Assists teachers and administrative staff enhance home/school communication for struggling students.
  • Assists in planning and delivering professional development for school staff to personalize learning for identified students.
  • Meets regularly with individuals and groups of students to offer encouragement and academic strategies to support completing assignments and promoting academic success.
  • May provide direct counseling services to and serves as an advocate for students and their families.
  • Directs students and families to appropriate non-District-based resources as a liaison to community agencies in coordinating and managing their delivery.
  • Works cooperatively with other student support personnel and, as necessary, outside agencies in performing assessments, managing cases and evaluating progress.
  • Provides crisis intervention, conflict resolution and case management services.
  • Serves as a liaison between District, students and their families.
  • Provides training and consultation to faculty, administrators and other school personnel.
  • Organizes parent education information nights.
  • Maintains appropriate case records and written reports.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with other members of the Department as well as other school personnel and community members, including those from diverse cultures or backgrounds or those who speak limited or no English.
  • Maintains student self-care closet (personal hygiene products, clothing, vouchers, snacks) for just in time student supports.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience with middle and high school-aged students;
  • Strong understanding of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) for academics and social/emotional/behavior;
  • Strong relationship building skills and the ability to establish sound systems from concept to design to implementation to ongoing support for success;
  • Establishes effective, collaborative working relationships with diverse staff, students and community populations;

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current licensure through Teachers Standards and Practices Commission with appropriate endorsement and/or authorization for district assignment AND
  • Minimum of three (3) years of classroom teaching experience. Middle level experience preferred.
  • Successfully pass fingerprinting, criminal, Oregon Department of Education, and TSPC background checks.

Desired Qualification:

  • Licensed School Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW) preferred.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
